July 2010 - Cars of the Month

Midsized sedans were the best selling cars for July 2010. Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Chevrolet Malibu and Nissan Altima were all in the top. All these cars registered more sales compared to the month before. Honda managed to have three vehicles in July's top ten list, even though on the whole they did not sell very many cars. Ford F-Series was on top of the list and Dodge Ram was the seventh.

Toyota Camry came in second. The 2010 Camry sedan has a new four-cylinder, six-speed powertrain and comes with revised styling. The new generation of Camry does not sacrifice safety though. The Camry lineup comes with dual-stage front, side-seat, side-curtain and driver's knee airbags. The anti-lock braking system assists its stopping power, together with the electronic brake-force distribution component. Offering the traditional ride which previous owners expect, with Macpherson struts in front and dual-link strut rear suspension, Camry CE differs from Camry SE, where buyers are offered chassis modifications to the springs, bushings and shock absorbers, underbody stabilizing braces which increase torsional rigidity.

Chevrolet Malibu is situated between its rivals Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. Its design is inspired by more expensive European models and its interior is inspired by the classic Corvettes. Besides the trim level, there is an impressive list of standard features such as traction control, tire pressure monitoring system or head-curtain side-impact air bags for all the seats.

The tenth generation Toyota Corolla features a redesigned exterior and interior and safety features such as driver and front passenger airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags and two-row side curtain airbags. Active headrest is standard equipment for the front seats. There is a long list of standard performance and convenience features offered by Toyota Corolla.

Honda's CR-V sport-utility vehicle offers more refinement that comes with increased popularity among its buyers. The latest generation offers a sleeker model compared to its predecessors due to a lower and wider stance. The four-wheel drive system is hydraulically activated and can instantly transfer power to the rear wheels in case front wheels slip. The top trims offered are 17-inch alloy wheels, power sunroof, privacy glass, security system and upgraded stereo. The CR-V was quite successful as Honda's first in-house SUV. Honda Civic and Honda Accord were together with the CR-V in July's top ten.

The Nissan Altima Sedan was last in the top ten, although it has received a modest refresh for the latest model year. Changes included better interior fabric and better quality material pieces. Its navigation system was the biggest upgrade, changing a 4.3 inch display to a 6.5 inch touch-screen unit. The Hard Drive Navigation System has advanced map data, with speed limit advisories included, Zagat restaurant guide, XM NavTraffic, XM NavWeather and Bluetooth Streaming Audio. The Altima Sedan also features a new Bose audio system with 4.3 inch color display, 9 speakers and iPod connectivity.
